Garage Upgrade Case Study
What started as an enquiry for a mobile shelved trolley, soon became a wider discussion on how System Store Solutions could transform Iain Forsyth’s vision for his garage into a reality.
Iain had been working on a modular model railway and needed a trolley unit to store the disassembled boards. He met the System Store Luxury Garages team at a Ferrari Owner’s Club event and found they could supply a trolley to his exact specifications. He soon realised the full depth of their offering and the conversation quickly moved on to a garage upgrade.
Following initial discussions, a site visit was carried out to measure up and explore possibilities. This is a critical part of the process, and a lot of time was taken to understand what units would fit, how the new ceiling could be installed across the joists, what electrics might be needed and how to construct all of this without disturbing the operation of the two existing up-and-over doors.Â

Durham-based, Iain, had wanted to improve his garage for some time and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to finally start this project.
The Client
“I wanted the work bench and storage to line one side wall of our double garage, leaving space for an upright fridge, an under-counter freezer and grass cutting equipment. There would be space on the other side of the garage for one car. I also needed wall storage above the units and stronger lighting. Possibly the most difficult part of the job though would be to install a ceiling on the existing joists to properly enclose the space. I wanted a clean, ordered look, with hand tools and fixings in drawers and larger power tools and paints stored out of sight in the cupboards.
I was greatly impressed by the diligent approach. Nothing was hurried even if this meant the team starting early in the morning and working late into the evening. The quality of the wall storage system, the work bench and the storage units is absolutely first class.
The final look is exactly as I had hoped, and the whole process worked smoothly from first contact through to completion. Seeking out the experts
A final design was agreed which included functional cabinets with drawer dividers, a tall unit to store pots and the units were configured to incorporate undercounter freezer leaving space for a tall fridge. In addition, the project included a new ceiling, lighting, shelving for long timber boards on Smartwall and a loft hatch with built-in ladder to enable further storage.
As part of their offering, System Store Solutions project managed and supplied service drawings for the painting and first fix electrical work to be carried out before installation during the 8 week lead time.
The installation itself took the three-person System Store Solutions team a full week to complete.
